This will help to prevent the occurrence of serious problems during on-site operation and enhance the service life of composite insulators. Furthermore, a new characterization method for HTV-SR is proposed to predict its actual service time. This is especially useful for the re-design of composite insulators. This will significantly benefit the safety and reliability of power grids and railway systems. The new method is simple and convenient to implement, reducing the cost of testing and allowing for fast turnaround times. It is therefore recommended that this method be further developed and applied to other HTV-SR types. It is also important to note that the aging of HTV-SR affects not only its physical properties but also its chemical and mechanical characteristics.
