It is also known as bridge agent in industry. Since C. Goodyear discovered that sulfur could cross-link the linear molecules of rubber and form a three-dimensional structure, it has been used as a vulcanizing agent. Besides sulfur and sulfides, some other organic peroxides such as hydrogen peroxides, diacyl peroxides, peroxy esters, etc., have been used as a vulcanizing agents to replace the traditional sulfur.
In addition to the above-mentioned vulcanizing agents, some other chemicals such as metal oxides, quinones, amine compounds and resins can be used as a vulcanizing agent.
